Building High-Performing Teams: SAS & WPO Panel

I am thankful for the opportunity to be on the #InclusiveLeadership panel last earlier this month, a collaboration between The Diversity Movement, a Workplace Options company, and SAS.

I still have a long way to go in my journey of continuing to become a stronger leader, and that was on display last night when one of the guests’ questions opened up an area of unconscious bias I had in the moment.

We shared insights on blending data, technology, and humanity to cultivate teams that balance people and profits, unveiling practical guidance for driving organizational progress.

Attendees learned that:

👉 The traditional "command and control" leadership model is no longer effective in today's diverse workplace.

👉 Inclusive leadership requires patience and vulnerability to maximize employee engagement.

👉 Embracing failure as a necessary part of growth is key to building high-performing teams.

👉 Being intentional about identifying diverse talent for opportunities is crucial for building top teams.

👉 Sponsorship and advocating for underrepresented individuals is essential for creating an inclusive culture.

Leadership is not a quest to reach the top of a mountain, we must keep climbing and learning from others to open our eyes to blind spots.

Thank you, Kurt Merriweather, CDE®, for the invitation to share, and Jamie Rose Ousterout, CDE® and Alex Boakye for sharing their experiences and stories as well.
